WoW for Communities
Here at WoW, we believe in the importance of supporting and encouraging community cohesion and resilience.
As a business, there are many ways in which we do this. By supporting the community and wherever possible, including the community in our project, we believe we engage fully with our Corporate Social Responsibility.
Communities... get involved today!
How Communities Are Taking Part
Currently, we work with communities in the following ways:
Charity
- In 2020/2021, we have chosen to donate to more local charities. In particular, we have supported innovative online events, arranged by young people showing resilience in the face of challenging times.
- In 2019/2020, our chosen charity was the NSPCC. A large part of our donation was used to support a group of young people in North Wales in planning, costing, negotiating and organising a gala event. In doing this, these young people not only gained qualifications and experience in event planning, but increased confidence and communication skills along the way.
- In 2018/2019 our charitable donations were to the Foodbanks in Flintshire and Denbighshire.
Work and/or placement opportunities
- We link with universities and offer placement opportunities for students in various aspects of the business. We are very grateful to students in bringing innovation and energy to the team.
- Students on Teacher Training programmes or considering a career in education have been able to deliver WoW sessions in a variety of settings therefore gaining valuable classroom experience and increasing their own network.
- We are super proud to report that 2 members of the WoW team decided to go into graduate study and teaching full time as a result of delivering WoW sessions.
Volunteering
- We give people from the community the opportunity to gain volunteering experience during our sessions in schools. Relevant checks are completed in the interests of safeguarding.
- University students have volunteered taking part in interactive sessions such as Working In Health. As well as gaining experience in working with children & young people, volunteering hours have contributed towards Volunteer Award Certificates for the students.
- Volunteer agencies have taken part in WoW sessions, so raising awareness of opportunities within the Voluntary sector as well as services available to the community.

Testimonials
"5. Superhero activity was fantastic and everyone loved the practical activities. The hairdressing in particular was very popular and the laptop activity too. The level of work was pitched well and differentiated to meet the needs of all students. The WoW team were really great with the kids and built up good relationships quickly."

"WoW Enterprise is a fantastic opportunity for the children to learn entrepreneurial skills whilst applying their literacy and numeracy skills and they looked forward to the sessions each week. All of the children enjoyed getting creative and making their own business. Thank you so much for this opportunity for our children, they've loved every minute of it and can't wait to sell their products next week. I would say WoW was a success for my class."

"I really enjoyed WoW Enterprise because we could make things and learn things we've never learnt about before"

"Thanks so much for today's session. Really got the children thinking about their futures and how they can take control of them. I wanted to let you know about some feedback that I had from one of the parents regarding the homework. One mother who has twins in my class has told me how interesting and engaging the homework was. She also said that it was a homework that her children had been excited to complete despite being reluctant usually. She said that she saw it as a really good way to open a conversation about jobs and work."

"Wonderfully inspirational. Brilliant concept. I wish I had the WoW Project when I was in school."

"Thank you so much for the WoW project, the children thoroughly enjoyed the experience and have gained so much. Through your project, a 10 year old girl has already started working on her future career. In one of your sessions she researched her dream job of athlete, she developed a clear idea of what she needed to do and following the WoW session, she joined an athletics club in Wrexham. She is well on her way to achieving her goal of running middle and long distance for Wales.
Once again, thank you so much."

"Thank you for the WoW project we received this Year. The results have been outstanding.
After speaking to Year 5 about the project the results speak for themselves. We now have 9-10 year olds who have spoken to their families regarding future education and further education as a result of knowing which routes are required to achieve certain grades etc.
Not only did it open the pupils eyes as to what is available (the staff were amazed at all the possibilities) but the interview/1:1 session with people in certain professions was worth while.
We hope that this is something we can not only continue with on a yearly basis. But also develop ideas alongside yourself as we really see a great impact of the WoW initiative."

"I have enjoyed taking part in WoW Project and I am excited to go to High School. I know that I need to work hard and go to college and university if I want to be an inventor or scientist."

"I found the WoW Community Links sessions fun and interesting. Witnessing the children growing in confidence as they asked well thought out questions was fabulous. Very worthwhile experience for children and employers and a great way to forge education business links."

"Good links with the community have a positive impact on provision in the school. The World of Work initiative, when pupils meet people from different occupations, such as doctors, hairdressers and soldiers, is an example of how partnerships with the community benefit the pupils."
